UNM Cancer Center now exclusive provider of cancer care
for Lovelace Community Health Plan members
Lovelace Health System and the University of New Mexico’s Cancer Research and Treatment Center are excited to announce an important new partnership in cancer care.
Starting October 1, 2008, the UNM Cancer Center will become the exclusive provider of medical oncology and hematology services for Lovelace Health Plan members. The UNM Cancer Center was named one of the top 50 cancer centers in 2006 by U.S. News and World Report.
“This new partnership means Lovelace members will have access to the expertise of the state’s largest team of board-certified oncology physicians and to important clinical trials,” said Dennis Wilson, CEO of Lovelace Health Plan. “This is truly an exciting day for our medical oncology patients and for cancer care in New Mexico.”
“As one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, our goals are not only to conduct ground-breaking research in the fight against cancer, but to assure that all New Mexicans have access to comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment through our statewide cancer care network,” said Cheryl Willman, MD, director and CEO of the UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center. “This important partnership will help us meet those goals. We look
forward to working with community physicians and Lovelace Health System to provide outstanding care for
Lovelace Health Plan patients.”
The agreement means Lovelace Health Plan and Lovelace Insurance Company members will have access to
new cancer treatment technologies and to new cancer therapies through important clinical trials currently under way at the UNM Cancer Center.
“A cancer diagnosis can be the most difficult news a patient can receive,” Wilson said. “Our goal is to give
our Lovelace Health Plan members the best chance to have a successful outcome. The UNM Cancer Center
is the only cancer center in New Mexico that is a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer research and
treatment center.”
